2004-06-16 01:52:00 | Hi guys, can anybody tell me how to change "firefox" to default browser in MSN Mess. v 6.1, if it is possible? perhaps a reg edit? using xp home. I don't use MSN Mess. so may have missed something? I Have been able to change default browser everywhere else and in all obvious places, however still opens I.E on clicking mail read etc... Its not really surprising i guess, being "MS" Mess, as i guess they want you to use there product (I.E) and i imagine its by design. Any ideas anybody please? Cheers

2004-06-16 02:09:00 | MSN 6.2 is out BTW ;-) Its not possible to change it, it simply uses IE regardless of you wanting it to or not. Try aMSN: http://amsn.sf.net aMSN will let you specify your browser :-) Chill.

2004-06-16 02:31:00 | hmmm...I presume the impossibility only applies to MSN messenger, Windows messenger recognizes Firefox as the default browser and launches it when clicking links. | metla (154) | |
2004-06-16 02:58:00 | Yes, that's correct, Windows Messenger uses the OS Default because its bundled with the OS, but MSN Messenger is a standalone application. So, from Microsofts POV - Why would they want to give you the choice to use a competing product to access / use one of their services?? Sorry J Zep, but Metla's right. You'll have to make do with either IE for Emails or aMSN for Chatting :-) Chilll.

2004-06-16 05:20:00 | Thanks guys, i had a feeling it was an impossibility :-(. Oh well... I was just hoping to get away from I.E totally with this system i am setting up for somebody else, however she does use MSN Mess. so i guess it will just have to be I.E for that then ;-). As Metla said "Win Mess" does'nt have any probs with it - as thats what i use, in combination with icq ;-). Funny though, cause "Win Mess" is still an ms product too ?:|, obviously the integration into xp makes the diff. then eh. Cheers :-)

2004-06-16 09:10:00 | I thought that some browsers could mimic different versions of IE via a plugin or like Konqueror's borwser identification. Or am I barking up the wrong tree? Cheers Murray P

2004-06-16 09:18:00 | other browsers can mimic or brwser ID as IE. however your barking up the wrong tree ;-) programs often will send url's to the default browser except messanger as it send it directly to IE (which is not surprising being MS). i have no idea if there is a hack to make go to the default browser.
