You don't want to go around raising that issue in this forum; I raised it with Stu once and copped a lot of slag.

Acts of parliament are published under the authority of the guvmint and as far as I know are in the public domain or are a matter of public record, ie, accessable to anyone who cares to. A bit like O/S software really, you pay for the physical act of publishing it but not the content. Pedant! no way, you'll have to look elswhere on this forum to find them :D

245145 2004-06-20 16:42:00 Also of interest is MS Virtual CD Drive Here,
www.techzonez.com
However does not work with most types of copy protection.

245146 2004-06-22 12:56:00 HI there
As a gamer i have a few ways i copy c.ds so you don't need the c.d to play or run a program. i hope this helps you....here goes:
#1 I use nero express to make a backup copy of the c.d(like what was said above)
#2 If the disk is copy righted or protected i go online and find a c.d Crack.
A crack is a little thing that makes the computer look in your hard drive for the info and running/boot exes to run your program instead of looking in your c.d rom drive for the disk.
#3 If that fails then i turn to "Virtual DAEMON Tool v3.17" (cause thats all i got) and make a disk image... like what was said above sometimes disk images ain't the best but my D-tool has not let me down yet.. another thing to note and be aware of is some time when you copy a c.d you get dodgy files this happens because the makers of the c.d have put these file on the disk to stuff up pirates and such.. sometimes cracks fix this problem. (but in the end it stuffs up the honest people trying to make back up copys) I hope some of this helps you out....

245147 2004-06-23 21:12:00 Legal? Not sure, strictly. This whole area is very tricky. The serial number is the protection, if you have that and the original knackered disk, then they won't drag you off.

I use a virtual drive, but can't remember what it is called (which will be a problem when I want to use it again). I have loaded a number of games onto it to save having to insert the disks. It also bugs me that I have worn out several CD Roms and CD Writers by the playing of games that unnecessarily access the CD for copy protection (Diablo I & II were especially bad). I still have the discs all lying around.

Be aware that these disc images don't always work (for example, it worked for me on BF1942 Road to Rome, but I don't think it worked on Secret Weapons, so I hardly play that because I have to find the CD. Means I storm Monte Cassino far more often than I do any SW scenarios, which is a shame, but then Monte Cassino is my favourite).

Bruce has already stated the rule of law.
