245129 2004-06-17 01:18:00 Winston, I take it you mean the screenshot?

I use HoverSnap, from www.hoverdesk.net

It takes a screenshot, labels it with date and time, puts it in a folder I made for screenshots, then I just cropped out what I wanted in Photoshop.

There are other utilities on that site, Hover IP is particularly good too.

HoverSnap is free, small, and seems to work well.

245130 2004-06-17 02:48:00 I've had problems with alcohol, and wouyld not reccomend using it. If you have nero, you can burn the movie to hard drive (just select image recorder) and that will give you a cd image. Then you just need to mount it:

A good virtual drive program is Daemon tools www.daemon-tools.cc
, alows you to locate the cd image file, and 'mount it' on a fake 'virtual cd drive' thus alowing you to run the program without having to deal with the bother of changing cds.

It is perfectly legal to make a personal copy of your cd, as long as you are not doing it to sell or give away.

Well I know all about them problems Will, still you can't use that as an excuse for illegal burning.

Bugger. Too quick for me Hook.

However you shouldn't make fun of Will, it is insensitive and most unkind. How would you feel if we carried on chortling and making ribald jests about your difficulties with the crocodile? Or losing alarm clocks to aquatic reptiles? Or having to use CRC as hand lotion?

As stated in the Copyright Act, above, it is legal to make personal copy of software for the reasons outlined in Section 80 of the Act. It is NOT legal to make a copy of music, or movies. The law covers the content, NOT the media. It makes no difference that software, music and movies can all come on DVD media. The law treats software differently with a special clause for software backup that does NOT extend to music or movies. Extending the definition to do so is one thing many people have made submissions on but at the same time the movie and music industry counters with its own submissions on not doing so.

Chris started this thread talking about software, but Will then mentions a "movie" in is post. important to make the distinction, because legally the implications are very different, and from a PressF1 point of view, different too.

245135 2004-06-17 06:05:00 Problem:

I have bought (payed for) Age of Empires II plus the Expansion. Over the years, it has been rendered useless due to neglect. Is it legal for me to make a copy of a friend's CD (Same CDs as mine) using alcohol 120%?

245136 2004-06-17 06:14:00 Hmm i meant to say image actually, i wasn't intending to talk about movies at all.

At the time i was burning a backup of Red vs. blue videos, so perhaps that might explain it ;D

You can't use CD image making software for making images of dvds anyhow.

By problems, i meant that when i installed Alcohol on a friends pc, the application hung, and various other problems. I do not reccomend using Alcohol, except if you don't have something better.

Megaman: I'm pretty sure that is illegel. Have you tried taking the cd to a repair place ?
