| 245672 | 2004-06-18 05:50:00 | At the 'Welcome" screen of my XP Pro machine, a message says "There are 2 unread mail messages" for my user account. Logged in and check my mail (Outlook) but there isn't any "unread messages" . I did however, created a hotmail account earlier this morning and configured Outlook Express to handle this hotmail account. I also tested a few emails using Outlook Express. But, I finally decided not to use Outlook Express for this hotmail account and removed it from Outlook Express. Can anyone figure out what and where are those '2 unread mail messages" came from, and how to remove that annoying message at the "Welcome" screen? |

You could try Start / settings / Control panel / User Accounts, select your account and see what settings you have under .Net Password. You can also see the accounts in the Registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ UnreadMail. Delete any that you don't want tracked. Alternatively, rather than messing with the registry, you can use Tweak XP to remove this notification. http://www.tweakxp.com/ My guess is that the unread messages are the "Welcome to Hotmail or Outlook express" variety.
