245536 2004-06-17 23:29:00 Hi,
Recently I had to locate and download a program which required Java.
I downloaded that, and a steaming coffee cup showed on bottom tool bar.
Then I decided that I did not want the program and deleted it --java as well- or, I hope, uninstalled it.
Now I want to re install Java after all- Fine! so I download it and it says install complete but it does not show on the harddrive or any download folder.( I have two harddrives one slaved to the other.

I then did a search and found all of the various files to do with the several Java downloads I had done, but when I come to cleanout / delete them I get "cannot locate the source of the file", and yet I cannot see the file in a manual search to be able to delete them.

Question 1
I want to clean out Java and restart a fresh download ---
2
do I really need the program ?

I have searched including "hidden files" so everything is accounted for70 odd files in "search" but then what?- no folder or anything tells me where to delete from the source.

This may sound a meandering question - but at my age what do you expect? :-(

245537 2004-06-17 23:44:00 Use this to find it in the registry it finds everything so you can delete it
RegSeeker
Here (www.hoverdesk.net)
Also look in C:\Documents and Settings you will have these folders in there for each user on your computer
.java
.javaws
.jpi_cache

245538 2004-06-18 00:15:00 Java is not a "program" in the normally accepted sense of the word.

Its an "add-in" of Java decoding technology to your browser, and therefore if you expect to see it in "all programs" as a separate executable program thats not strictly the case.

245539 2004-06-18 02:03:00 Hi G F & Johnboy.
Now you are cooking with gas- GF if it is not a program- and I accept that - why was a steaming cup of coffee icon, placed on the bottom tool bar - and why cannot I get it back there?
Johnboy, that regcleaner is what used but it did not identify the program - - is it because as G F said it is not a program in the accepted sense of the word?
Anyway I am about to use both your advice(s) if that be english and clean up
Thank you

245540 2004-06-18 03:38:00 well G F & Johnboy -
went in and redid as you both suggested- thought I had cleaned out everything - redownloaded and installed -did a freesh search and now see programs entered two days ago - all the way back to 2003- and I thought I had "cleaned"out all files.
Johnboy, I did see .java,.javaws.jp_cache, in the pre- cleanout - now there is nothing of that title.
The program did install, but thanks to G F it is not so worrying when it is not in programs- BUT I still don't have the steaming cup icon on my bottom tool bar--- do I really need that?
Do I need worry too over long backdated info?
neurotic? probably but advise please!

245542 2004-06-18 03:58:00 Hi Johnboy,
Thank you old son - and am I to assume the long past history is of no heed?--- certainly I have had the cup icon, on the bottom right toolbar- I see it in the search list but that is all- apparently it still works
