2004-06-20 04:34:00 | recently I upgraded my 4.3 gig on a computer to a 20gig. I wanted to put the old 4.3 in another computer (a pentium-s 100mhz, for win 95). Problem is that though the 4.3 works fine in the computer it came from, the 100mhz's BIOS only detects it as a 75mb job, and i cant access it if boot from a floppy. Anyone got any ideas on how to make it work??? its a Quantum Fireball CR 4.3Gb model number - CR43A101 i think

2004-06-20 04:44:00 | Have you tried to manually set the head, cylinder etc paramaters. There shold be a setting in the bios to do this. You may need harddisk need overlay software or an add-in card that overrides the bios hdd limitation or install linux ;). Check to see if the jumper is not set to CS too this may throw older bios's. Good luck. | mark.p (383) | |

2004-06-20 04:46:00 | how do i install linux if its only detecting as 75mb anyway? | agent_24 (4330) | |
2004-06-20 04:48:00 | Linux has more sense than to trust anything the BIOS says.:D Look carefully as a Linux boots ... it will tell you what sizeof disk it can see.

2004-06-20 08:21:00 | Hmmm..... I sort of have the same kind of prob. 30Gb HD into a P2. Worked fine in my Athlon 2k+; but upon placing it into the P2 the thing just clicks a bit when trying to detect it. It is a Quantum Fireball. No cylinder/sector settings on the exterior. Have updated the Bios, with no effect.
