247332 2004-06-24 07:34:00 I am building a new computer, and I was just wondering if there was any dangers involved when installing the power supply and motherboard (unplugged from mains). (I don't want to get electrocuted)

Also, what wattage should I get for the power supply (CPU 2500+, 40 GB 7200rpm, CD-R/DVD.

Cheers

247333 2004-06-24 07:38:00 400watt min i would suggest and as for dangers installign when not even connected to the mains.................cant see how you could be in any danger of electrocution under those circumstances........anyway there'd virtually be no danger ever from a psu unless you got it open and stick something in there while it's plugged in drcspy (146)
247334 2004-06-24 07:53:00 300w will do fine,350 to 370 would be even better and the 400w would be the best of the lot but really overkill, especially if your counting pennies. metla (154)

Just like a TV even though it may be turned off some parts inside will still contain a charge of electricity.
As the original poster isn't getting inside the PSU there is nothing to worry about.
