247409 2004-06-27 05:09:00 Hi Bob... I would think that presently, most probably Gmail has a ceiling size on files sent at this time in its beta phase. The largest I've sent is about 260k... Jpeg files.

I'll try sending some jpeg files in excess of 300k and see what happens... later.

247410 2004-06-27 06:57:00 Well I tried to d/l a file of 1m2, it got to 966kb or thereabouts and then gave the message. I sent details to help people and they replied, saying they were looking into it, but since then I have not heard from them, they did not mention any limit. May be a quirk in my system but I have successfully done the same files from other email sites so I think it must be something on Gmail. I then tried a d/l of about 366kb and got the same result at about 333kb. ???????

247411 2004-06-27 07:01:00 Send a file >1meg as an attachment to your Gmail from another account and then try to download it. I do this quite a lot with my other sites to transfer files to and from other computers to and from home computer and the Gmail site did not perform as the others do. It would be useful to me to know if others are having the same problem. zqwerty (97)
247412 2004-06-27 22:31:00 zqwerty... Bob... I sent a >1mb bmp file from Gmail to an Xtra address. That went ok.

I then sent a >1mb file from Xtra to Gmail. That file failed about half way through.

So I think it is a problem at Gmail. I also am still of the the opinion that Gmail have their ceiling for files locked down during the beta phase from their stated maximum of 10mb on incoming.

Replies from Gmail take a long time but they do reply eventually. I have sent them a number queries during the last 4 months and had a reply to each.

247413 2004-06-28 02:46:00 Ok thanks for that Eric, I am relieved to hear that it is not only me that has the problem. Wonder when it will be fixed? Seems strange that with all the people using Gmail no-one has noticed this up until now, after all, the help people replied and said nothing about this being an on going problem or even that they had seen it before.
What is actually happening, I mean this surely can't be the situation overall with all users.
If it is its a poor show because the size is not the deciding factor, try a smaller file you will get the same result.

247414 2004-06-28 03:41:00 apparently theres no problem sending large files from gmail.
i just tested sending a 7MB file from gmail to another seperate gmail account.

if you use your email account for transferring files between home/work, and theres problems sending files to gmail, it should be fine if you send the file from your gmail account to your gmail account.

247415 2004-06-28 03:54:00 The problem is downloading large and not so large files from Gmail. I want to do it that way because I want to store files which I may need in the future to download to other computers I may use during my travels, because of the large storage available at Gmail, but since this does not work so far Gmail is not much better than any other email address I have used for this purpose in the past since I have to forward from Gmail to another address and then download.
