2004-06-27 03:19:00 | Is the Opera Application safer than the MS Explorer and are there pitfalls in trying out Opera? The new viruses and trojans are really worrying now. | Cymbalz (4460) | |

Only that you won't want to use IE again . ;-) > The new viruses and trojans are really worrying now . Very much so, especially with the new threat ( . pcworld . co . nz/thread . jsp?forum=1&thread=48605" target="_blank">pressf1 . pcworld . co . nz) of getting a virus from browsing a website these days . Give Opera a try, I'm sure you'll like it . :-) |

2004-06-27 07:45:00 | I use Opera 90% of the time. However there are pitfalls. If you need to access NZ government departments my experience is you need to use IE. There are other sites which will not display properly or not allow you to send information but overall I have few problems. The easy answer is to have both and use IE when you have a problem. Apparently Mozilla is even more popular.

2004-06-27 08:22:00 | Winnie, I don't have too many problems with Govt sites in Firefox or Mozilla (in Linux). MED + offshoots and BIA would be the most commonly used. I wouldn't have thought Opera was too different. If I have trouble using a (informational as opposed to a recreational) website I email the webmaster to let them know. If I come across one that says you must use IE version xx or higher, and nohing else will work the email is usually rather terse, the exceptions being if I think they are merely ignorant rather than pig ignorant. ;) Cheers Murray P

2004-06-27 11:49:00 | I have been using Opera for about 2 months now. It is appreciably faster than IE, and has some great features. I do still use IE occasionally as some sites don't load properly, but I haven't really had a good go at the settings to solve this. The only thing I miss is the full Google toolbar, it has got a small search bar but not the option to "search NZ" which I use a lot. | NZer (5495) | |
