247591 2004-06-25 08:58:00 Toshiba pro satellite laptop, 600 Mhz, 30 gig HDD, Win 2000 pro.

Don't really know what happened,( looking at our children :-) ), anyway the laptop's video was about 2/3 of the screen and only 16 colours.

Control panel showed the video adapter as VGA with no option to change it. Control panel/device manager had a yellow mark against it and made reference to the drivers not being installed. Using the trouble shooter was of no help.

Loaded SisoftSandra 2004 onto the lappie and the video section showed "Item = error, Value = DX-DDE887600DE. Well, not much help there.

I need to be able to identify the make/model of the video adapter so as to be able to reload the correct driver.

How do I find this info out?

Perhaps if someone own's one of these, a quick look in control panel might show what adapter it has and could post the details here. I could then presume that all 4300 series had the same adapter and just hope my presumption was correct :-)

247592 2004-06-25 10:11:00 does the toshiba site have any info? Megaman (344)
247593 2004-06-25 10:59:00 Yes it does Megaman but I found out after my post :-( , says a S3 Savage IX (which I think is 4), but it made no difference, giving a message "The device cannot start" and again trouble shooter was of no help. So, no further ahead.

Puter works damn fine, except for video prob, so at least I can still use it till problem is solved :-)

Thanks for the thought.

247594 2004-06-25 23:42:00 An update.

After trying so many times to get win2k to recognise my S3 Savage IX video adapter without any sucess at all, and in the wee small hours, I crept around the house and 'borrowed' the wife's Win XP pro CD, thank god she left the CD key attached to the CD sleeve :-) .

Naughty I know, but totally sucessful. Video adapter recognised, full size screen, 32 bit at a resolution of around 1000+ X 780 odd.

Now I cannot leave XP on the lappie as that would be illegal, but any thoughts as to why Win2K does not pick up the graphics adapter?

Win2K is legal, so I would rather use it :-)

247595 2004-06-26 00:29:00 the graphics driver was probably corrupted, and XP installed it's own standard graphics driver. Megaman (344)
247596 2004-06-26 09:15:00 You could try just deleting the device from device manager and then "refreshing" to reinstall it... falvrez (390)
