1365116 2014-01-13 04:27:00 Righto, this time it is serious and I mean business . :blush:

I am considering the features of the following three motherboards:

. ascent . co . nz/productspecification . aspx?ItemID=415488" target="_blank">www . ascent . co . nz

. ascent . co . nz/productspecification . aspx?ItemID=415486" target="_blank">www . ascent . co . nz

. ascent . co . nz/productspecification . aspx?ItemID=415506" target="_blank">www . ascent . co . nz

The main differences appear to be the PCI / PCI-e slots . Since I don't play games other than Freecell, etc I am hoping not to have to install a graphics card and other than a PCI TV tuner card, which may or may not go in the new system, I currently have nothing else to put in these slots .

I am mystified as to what the "DisplayPort" on the second board is, however . Can someone please explain what this would be for? This board also supports RGB with max . resolution 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz . What does that mean? My monitor connects via VGA (currently) or HDMI, which I am wanting to use . I only have one monitor and have no plans to use a second one for now .

The prices for these boards are fairly similar but I don't want to pay for something I am not going to utilise so unless I have a use for some of the second board's goodies I will be weighing up between the first and third boards .

Thoughts and opinions will be appreciated . :)

1365117 2014-01-13 04:34:00 I like the Asus H87M-Pro Motherboard, it looks pretty with all those gold bits.

A display port can be used as an alternative to the VGA or DVI, but your monitor must have a display port as well.

1365119 2014-01-13 05:58:00 You may not be playing the latest games but if you are going to run a TV tuner card (which I expect will be pulling in digital HDTV) you might want to make sure whatever graphics processor it has can support playback of HD video properly. I assume anything in this day and age can, but you know what they say about assumptions...

And look at driver\software performance, not just hardware...

1365120 2014-01-13 08:43:00 Opinion, you can spend less and not know the difference. Depending on what you intend to use it for and what hardware you have of course.
I am an Asus fan but these 2 are better value and perfectly adequate;

I built a gaming PC around an itx Asrock B75 board - very good rig I am happy with.

Definitely can't beat a pretty face . I could even be tempted to put the window on my case if I got that one . :p

I think I should have worded my question a little better regarding the display port . I was interested in what circumstances it might be used, given that one could just use HDMI . I have since found out more information .

why not . ascent . co . nz/productspecification . aspx?ItemID=415478" target="_blank">www . ascent . co . nz ?

That one is a geek's board . ;)
