1364968 2014-01-11 23:01:00 For the last few years I have been using MicroSoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 to create my webpages which, until a couple of weeks ago, I was easily able to upload to my hosting service.

Since late December, Powweb wouldn't recognise my uploads and I have had to change over to using CuteFTP to upload everything - what a painful exercise that turned out to be.

Can anyone suggest or recommend a simple WYSIWYG Windows web creation programme that I can use, or point me in the direction of a non-biased discussion forum on the matter?

Whenever I run a Google search to review web creation programmes, I end up at individual product websites which are pushing their own barrow, so to speak.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Are you wanting a basic "drag and drop" type software package or a proper web design software package like Adobe Dreamweaver that gives both a design view and a code view of your web page, or, a quality text editor such as Sublime Text or a Windows text editor where you write your HTML, CSS, JavaScript in the editor and view the actual web page in Chrome, Safari, Firefox or (choke gag) IE?

I use Sublime Text 2 with Emmet which rocks and allows for very fast coding. The demo version is free or you can pay the $60 license which I have done. It works on both Mac and Windows. I use it on both.

Me personally, a text editor simply because there are no limitations to what code you can write or how basic or complex you want your web page to be. Also if you are viewing the finished file in the web browser then you don't have to worry about the software trying to emulate the web page.

As to choice of text editor, mine is Sublime text, but I have also used Komodo which was good. Other than that, use what ever text editor suits your needs. There ara a lot of free ones available.

The other thing about reading and writing your own code is that you learn to be able to fix software bugs. If you just copy and paste someone else's code then you have no idea as to what the code is doing. So when things go pear shaped you can be up the creek minus your paddle real quick.

1364973 2014-01-11 23:48:00 If you want "drag and drop" then I'd suggest Adobe Dreamweaver CC which is available online and as a monthly rental. The many catch with using the drag and drop option when building web pages is that the code that gets generated will not be as clean or efficient as the code that you would write yourself.

You sign up to Adobe and download the applications that you want to your desktop and install them for a flat monthly price.

Dreamweaver does have the code view option that let's you write your own HTML CSS etc

If you want a good online course to learn how to write good HTML CSS code then there are a couple of good courses that you can register for that are free as well.

In my case ... that would be more than a necessity. One thing I have never done is writing code but I have always wanted to learn ... may be getting a bit long in the tooth for that now though. I did try some very simple stuff but the result wasn't anything like what I wanted ... gave up!

1364976 2014-01-12 01:15:00 I'm not wanting to resort to writing in code.

I just want to enter (copy) text and add a few photographs or .xlsx spreadsheet data

Does the page you are wanting to add the text or images to have an edit facility available like this pf1 forum page?

Or does it require the use of a basic text editor to perform the task?
