1364598 2014-01-07 05:55:00 I have an HP elitebook laptop which is about 4 years old and is running windows 7, it's been working fine but today it has suddenly started having problems. The problem is that no programs will load when I try to access them, I have tried turning it off and on and Windows looks to load Ok, the mouse responds, I can right click and double click on programs but when I try to open them nothing happens except the circle keeps spinning. This is the same for all programs. Any ideas? Sorry it's a bit of a vague question but it's getting a bit frustrating. I downloaded Comodo Firewall last night, but the laptop was working fine all day today until late this afternoon, my son had turned it off and when I turned it back on this problem was happening. If I try to do a restart it just keeps logging off for about 20 minutes or more and so eventually I just power it off and turn it back on again.

Any help would be much appreciated.

1364599 2014-01-07 09:22:00 I'd backup all the data ASAP, as this might be symptomatic of the HDD failing.

Sure, it might be something less significant, but do you want to take the risk of waiting to see what eventually occurs?

See if you can open Task Manager to see if anything is hogging resources.
Try starting in Safe Mode (F8 key).

School holidays... have the kids downloaded malware?

Uninstall Comodo, I bet that cures the issue.
I found Comodo can get a bit confused and block all sorts of things from running.

1364601 2014-01-08 05:59:00 Well I logged into Safe mode tonight, did a scan with Malwarebytes which didn't find anything and then deleted Comodo and did a system restore and it seems to be fixed.

Thanks for your help and advice.
