| 1364314 | 2014-01-05 07:57:00 | Hi All Got a friends lappy here "Gateway" ... never heard of it before. Anyway, it's got Application Error messages popping up allover the place and after Googled 'till I was cross eyed last night I'm really not much further ahead. The exe file lmutipls seems to be the likely problem, even though some say it's safe, some say it's a virus. Here's a few "clues" as to whether I'm on the right path and if anyone has a fix for it. For me it's the first time using W8 so please be patient. Tried CCCleaner and found 3 not so nasty nasties. Tried updating and running MSE ... wouldn't allow update or run. Won't allow me to download HJT or anything else for that matter. Have booted into safe mode OK ... now popups ... CAN"T boot into safe mode with networking ... a few suggestions have been made on different sites but many of them require "elevated command prompt" to get "full admin rights" ... having problems with that as well. I can get a command prompt but I don't think it is the "elevated" one ... and I can't even remember why I needed it now :o I did take the HD out of the lappy and put it in a Caddy to try doing scans but didn't get very far with that either ... ANY suggestions as to what else I can try would be welcome. Cheers SP8'S |

| 1364315 | 2014-01-05 08:16:00 | Well first find out where the exe file is. Looks like it belongs to a launch manager program, which came installed on some systems. Inc Gateway. Disable it in startup with ccleaner | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 1364316 | 2014-01-05 10:08:00 | Hi Speedy. Your correct, it is the launch manager ... the file is lmutips.exe or one of them anyway. The problem is that it's putting up that many "error messages" it's difficult to list them all. I have uninstalled & re-installed the launch program via install / uninstall programs within windows, ended the process in task manager, removed it from startup via ccleaner, etc. but it keeps on coming back and "blocking" any attempt to launch various scanners etc. As I said in the OP, it doesn't appear when booting up into safe mode, but I'm unable to get safe mode with networking and run a HJT scan. I haven't tried putting HJT via USB in safe mode, but doesn't the OS have to be "normal" mode to run HJT ? There's a lot of contradictory information on this particular .exe file ... |
