1344302 2013-05-30 22:36:00 First of all, I'd like to apologise to everyone who's been put through the ringer.

I spoke to management yesterday and looked at how we can monetise the forums over the new few months. We put forth that the only way to monetise the forums long-term is to keep them both of the boards open, as they have been. We're working on a plan for them, and for the foreseeable future the PressF1 forums will remain open, exactly as they have been, with no pre-moderation.

I know that some of you will be annoyed that we've messed you all around, and that's totally understandable. I'm really sorry. Iantech, I know you've spent your own money on an alternative - I'll contact you personally shortly.

1344304 2013-05-30 22:45:00 I still think we should all bail this site and go to Iantech's forum.

I think it's too late. Shouldn't have happened. Iantech's forum is better.

We're watching this unfold with interest. The alternate forums will stay open for now :)

I think Iantech and you have put too much effort into it for us to stay here. That and your forum is more free and liberating. It's more about the community and less commercial.

For some reason I am thinking of the song 'The Bells of Hell Go ting-a-ling-a-ling' www.youtube.com :)

The problem is PCW will most likely go through all this again in 6 months time or less.

It reminds me of the time we fought rearguard actions against Arnold Weinstock during the GEC take over of English Electric and the endeavours to keep open the EE Mechanical Engineering Laboratory.

I hate to pop your balloons :) , but if Pf1 stays up then the new forum will eventually wither & die off
The new forums problem is this "Total members 107"
Pf1's numbers "Most users ever online was 10,063, Yesterday at 11:20 AM."

Pf1 has thousands of members, they dont seen to be migrating across. The more infrequent PF1ers probhably wont bother moving forums.
PF1 also will allways seem to be more legitimate , being connected to the mag . Its the infrequent users that will make up the numbers, not the daily usual's we all know & love.

Will the PF1 owners & mods allow us to actively try & move users to the new forum in future? That doesnt seem realistic in the long term.
Its certainly worth keeping the new forum up, just in case. Perhaps it will be used by the elite hard core few (ha)

Don't be so sure.
A story just went up on NBR titled Fairfax in talks with staff on possible closure of computer titles (www.nbr.co.nz)
