1344824 2013-06-05 21:26:00 Pretty sure its illegal just as making an XP version was too

Dont think there is anything illegal about it... but more the question is why would you strip everything out of Win7 in order to make it run in 200MB of RAM???

If you're that short of RAM, buy more... it's cheap :D

1344825 2013-06-06 02:19:00 why would you want to upgrade hardware that still works?
why would you not want the latest version of windows running on what limited hardware better than xp ran on the same hardware?

ddr2/3 may be cheap but try getting a decent amount of ram into something with SDR/DDR

stipping all the useless features like welcome center and speach etc is much better.

indexing? gone.

do you need the features they removed? probably not.

gaming performance is higher, that seems good enough reason for even gamers to strip out useless features.

MICROSOFT WHY HAVE YOU FAILED US?

Why would you want to upgrade software that still works? :P

Both for the same reason, because it's better. Would you ride to work on a penny farthing if you could afford a modern car just because it still works? (actually that might be cool but you get the point).

Because the newer hardware is better. ;)

they are hacked/pirated versions .
If you have lots of time to spare, sorting out all the issues you WILL come across, then sure give a shot. Not a wise choice for 99% of Win users.
I tried this sort of thing back in the Win98 days. I realised for the very small REAL WORLD speed increase, it wasnt worth living with the issues of these Lite type hacks.
Some just like to play around with Win setup, thats OK. They'll move on from that phase eventually .

Just stick in a SSD. Thats all the speed increase you'll need.
If its for gaming, get better hardware if you want real speed increases.

But yep, still on XP at Work. Will be for quite some time as boss wont be buying new hardware or OS licenses. We use PC's written off by our customers (ie old junk)

I have customers still on Dos6 !!!

1344831 2013-06-06 05:22:00 Well. Work is still using XP on their machines but they've been admiring my Surface Pro :p pcuser42 (130)
1344832 2013-06-06 08:15:00 The laptop I'm using now is XP Home. Sister in law brought a new laptop with Windows 8, she asks me to fix things for her, I had to ask her how to shut it down! Tried using it with her not around, ended up opening a command prompt and giving it a shutdown -s.

Got to be the most convoluted way of shutting down a PC in any Windows version yet.
