1344242 2013-06-01 19:34:00 Shades of Windows 3.11 with tiles all over the desktop in groups. Its gone full circle.
Back to the future. Been a long time since I have used Windows 3.11:D

1344243 2013-06-02 05:57:00 expect windows 8 to stick to this new UI and windows 9 to support arm code on x86 and x86 on arm.

windows 9 introduces epic compatibility legacy options etc.

maybe even x86 emulation via gpgpu

1344244 2013-06-02 06:59:00 arm code on x86 and x86 on arm.

Good luck with that...

Epic? That would require support for MS-DOS applications and letting them have full control over hardware etc. That would be epic.

1344246 2013-06-02 23:58:00 They let Teenagers design the Win8 interface, with their teenage obsession with their phones & tablets.
Those young wippersnappers dont care what us old timer PC users want.

True

But there will be less and less desktop users - my friends pc died so his wife bought him a tablet, as all they did was email and youtube.

It will soon be only gamers and businesses that have desktops.

This will means less need for PC F1 and IT repair guys.

Dos was great - there was no start button and no tiles and no swiping.

1344248 2013-06-03 03:22:00 Heres the first thing I'll be changing:

Deeper SkyDrive Integration: SkyDrive becomes the default for saving all documents. Any and all files stored in SkyDrive can be made available offline by mirroring the content to your PC.

1344249 2013-06-03 04:29:00 Yup I wont be saving anything on skydrive or anywhere else. I've also removed it from this PC Speedy Gonzales (78)
1344250 2013-06-03 11:54:00 The two things that I think SHOULD be an option.

You have a choice of either booting directly to a desktop, or the current start menu - and same with start Button / Menus. let the user decide.

Exactly. Some actually like the Start Screen. Or do you mean the Menu?

this would indeed be ideal.

with solutions like dosbox im not exactly sure whats stopping m$ from implementing such things.

windows9 should act like whatever version of windows you want it to.

would there be any point in upgrading from windows 7, people are still hanging onto XP and 7 is where they will go, an upgrade to 7 today would hold them over till mid next decade!

windows 9 has to be very impressive.

16bit application support.

x86 emulated on gpgpu seems nontrivial but very doable. look at itanic emulation of x86, modern gpus are orders of magnitude more powerful; even when mobile gpus for tablets are taken into condieration. for one app its more than enough.

im honestly surprised mircrosoft hasnt put more effort into these things.

open sourcing all prior versions of windows would be a start. they can keep the source for 7/8 if they must, latest -1 makes sense.

or if we want to look if with NT version numbers they could open 1x-5x and keep 6x closed.

presumably windows 9 with be NT7
