2014-01-30 04:29:00 | I'd be happy to get a free Corsair PSU | Agent_24 (57) | |
2014-01-30 09:43:00 | "Have had to RMA a Corsair PSU twice with Computer Lounge, both times they had to wait for the manufacture to ship a replacement. Maybe that is just their way of dealing with RMAs? Avoiding the manufacturer refusing to replace the product after already shipping out replacement units to customers." Oh well ... hopefully I won't need to go down that track again. I'm otherwise happy with Computer Lounge's service. "As for FSP, from what I've seen the look pretty good (the modular gold+ ones) apart from fairly average performance in the voltage ripple department. They seem to be decent value though." To be honest I was surprised by the weight or lack of it when I held the Ax860. My memory of the FSP 850 was that it was a lot heavier which I presume is a good thing when it comes to PSUs?

2014-01-30 09:49:00 | I would have been happy if it was free as well! ;-) I never asked that question so I'll never know - only relieved that that allowed the credit of the FSP against it.

2014-01-30 09:57:00 | To be honest I was surprised by the weight or lack of it when I held the Ax860. My memory of the FSP 850 was that it was a lot heavier which I presume is a good thing when it comes to PSUs? In general, bigger parts, thicker wires, bigger heatsinks = better built and hence more weight. BUT that is not always the case. For example, an older, less efficient design will need larger heatsinks as it will be dissipating more energy as waste heat. It may still be very good quality but that doesn't necessarily mean it's better than something lighter. PSUs with passive PFC coils will tend to be heavier than active PFC designs - but active PFC is newer\better. And lastly, some ultra-budget el-cheapo PSU makers sometimes glue lumps of metal inside the case, or add fake PFC coils molded out of concrete to add weight and make their PSU seem better. Without looking at the overall design of the FSP and the Corsair though, it would be hard to say if the difference in weight is meaningful.

2014-01-30 18:04:00 | I have an FSP raider 750W running my litecoin Rig, seems to be ok. It wasn't my first choice but the one I ordered was out of stock and the reviews seem ok if not fantastic. Pulling 600W constantly running 24/7 so I guess we'll see if it's going to last :) I have since discovered Computer Lounge sell OEM seasonic PSU's up to 650W for very reasonable prices, these just became my new PSU of choice.

2014-02-04 20:47:00 | I just had a follow up call from Computer Lounge - it seems FSP is no longer being distributed in NZ as there is not enough demand or somesuch. | phijoa (14702) | |

2014-02-06 21:03:00 | +1 pricespy.co.nz So what we are saying the Comp Lounge sent the guy a better, probably more expensive Corsair & then lied about why they sent him a better PSU ?? :) Those listed in pricespy could be old stock, goods parallel imported, or NOT ACTUALLY IN STOCK as per usual with pricespy It could be their supplier's no longer imports them.
