1364978 2014-01-12 02:11:00 My suggestion would be adobe Dreamweaver which is widely used for designing web pages. It provides both a coders viewer and a designers view when creating pages. Webdevguy (17166)
1364979 2014-01-12 03:12:00 Does the page you are wanting to add the text or images to have an edit facility available like this pf1 forum page?

Or does it require the use of a basic text editor to perform the task?

I am confused at what you are saying :(

As mentioned in my OP, I am using MS Office SharePoint Designer 2007 to create my pages. In some instances, I import text/tables from Excel and paste them onto my pages.

I should have stated earlier that I am not wanting to spend hundreds of dollars for this programme :)

1364980 2014-01-12 05:17:00 Zippity - if you want a reliable FTP application then I recommend FireFTP (free) which I have used for the past 12 months. I have a bookmark to the app and it is configured to login with your folders on left side of screen and the web site folders on the right side. Then files can be moved in either direction. It sounds like that is all you need since you already have an app to create your pages. coldot (6847)

I figured as much. I did a bit of research to see what MS Sharepoint Designer did. I see that it is basically a specialised point and click template building programme created by Microsoft for people who want to build corporate style web pages without needing any knowledge of web site coding.

I'm guessing that what you want to do will be tricky to do without the use of a current version of Sharepoint designer, mainly because you don't have any knowledge of writing HTML code. If you did then you would be able to use a basic free text editor such as Sublime text or pay a small price for something like Adobe Dreamweaver.

Your other option would be to fix the bug that is stopping you from uploading your Sharepoint 2007 pages so that you can keep using it.

1364982 2014-01-13 02:13:00 I'm not wanting to resort to writing in code.

I just want to enter (copy) text and add a few photographs or .xlsx spreadsheet data

Did a bit of a google search under "design web pages without code for free"

And got these results back
www.google.com

Free website templates

http://www.wix.com/
Another downloadable template

Or this one

I'm thinking the google.com web designer link might be your best option.

1364983 2014-01-13 02:16:00 In my case ... that would be more than a necessity. One thing I have never done is writing code but I have always wanted to learn ... may be getting a bit long in the tooth for that now though. I did try some very simple stuff but the result wasn't anything like what I wanted ... gave up!

Have you tried codecademy or codeschool - codecademy is very good and free. It takes you through the basics and assumes that you have no prior knowledge of writing any sort of code. Some times that is all it takes to get you over the first hump. :)

1364984 2014-01-13 02:44:00 MS Word or OO Writer will output html pages.
The code will be as ugly as sin, but it might work for what you want with very little effort.

You are right about it being ugly. I just made a quick html file in Open Office containing a heading and a paragraph, saved as html and had a look at the output which is all html 4.0 with inline styles.

1364986 2014-01-13 06:24:00 I don't mind paying for a web creation programme - I just don't want to spend a fortune.

I have looked at Web Easy Professional 10 but can't find any independent opinions on its usefulness.

In that case I would suggest Adobe Dreamweaver or Adobe Muse which are both medium priced. Unfortunately all the cheap template stuff out there tends to be pretty limited for customisation ability.

So you either have the free and totally flexible selection of text editors and design/code your pages

Or

The links I listed previously

Or

You "rent" a web design program like Dreamweaver or Adobe Muse for about $68US a month. You can check the prices on their site.
(Adobe don't sell any of their software on CD any more, it's only available by download unless you pick up a second hand one off trade me)

Also if you require it, there is always codecademy which is a free online web design course which can teach you how to code basic HTML CSS code from the ground up. No prior coding experience needed. I've used it, it's real good.
