| 1344968 | 2013-06-08 01:49:00 | Incidently you may well think that Rock and Roll arrived with Bill Haley or someone like that in the early fifties.....no...The Bozzies were singing Rock and Roll in 1934.....www.youtube.com and Mildred Bailey sang Rock It For Me in 1938...www.youtube.com Don't forget Mama Thornton, blues singer, harmonica player and drummer who had a hit in 1953 with Hound Dog, three years before Elvis' version. She also recorded Ball and Chain which she had little success with but was a big hit for Janis Joplin. While Rock n Roll began before Bill Haley, he certainly made it commercial and very popular in 1956. I still love rock n roll, particularly the rock n roll of the 50s and 60s. Thanks for the link, Trev. I'm listening to it while writing this. Some damn good music. Much appreciated. |
