| 1344312 | 2013-05-31 00:03:00 | Pf1's numbers "Most users ever online was 10,063, Yesterday at 11:20 AM." That doesn't really mean a lot. One thing thats very clear - when ever there is a thread thats a bit controversial, a good fight or what ever - you'll notice the "views" skyrocket Picture hundreds of people sitting back eating pop corn watching. Yet the actual people that reply may only be half a dozen or so. Take the original post about chat closing, over 6000 views in less than a week. Not 6000 answers though. ;) Pf1 has thousands of members, they dont seen to be migrating across. Again doesn't mean much - many people will create an account to ask a question, then never come back, or members leave and never come back. Truth be known - Fairfax saw what was happening - all the regular members who help jumping ship to the new forum - then these forums would basically be a ghost town. More than likely actually came to the conclusion the pre moderating would be a nightmare to carry out as well for the people involved, which in its own right would force members old and new to not come here. While the chat and non pre moderation is able to carry on at the moment dont be at all surprised if it really is a cost factor then the whole site will close :2cents: |

| 1344317 | 2013-05-31 00:33:00 | Fairfax Media is in talks with staff over the possible closure of its stable of computer publications, NBR ONLINE has been told by two people immediately familiar with the matter. NBR understands the bi-weekly Computerworld and Reseller News, and the monthly magazine NZ PC World will be closed altogether (rather than moved online-only, as has been the case with some computer titles). Saved? :tui: Whos kidding who? |

| 1344320 | 2013-05-31 00:47:00 | I hate to pop your balloons :) , but if Pf1 stays up then the new forum will eventually wither & die off The new forums problem is this "Total members 107" Pf1's numbers "Most users ever online was 10,063, Yesterday at 11:20 AM." Pf1 has thousands of members, they dont seen to be migrating across. The more infrequent PF1ers probhably wont bother moving forums. PF1 also will allways seem to be more legitimate , being connected to the mag . Its the infrequent users that will make up the numbers, not the daily usual's we all know & love. Will the PF1 owners & mods allow us to actively try & move users to the new forum in future? That doesnt seem realistic in the long term. Its certainly worth keeping the new forum up, just in case. Perhaps it will be used by the elite hard core few (ha) +1. I have been a member of various forums since 1999 and have seen this sort of thing happen when a new forum starts up from keen members of a previous forum. It starts off with a hiss and a roar and over time the enthusiasm of its founders dwindles and eventually the forum is no more. I would not of joined this new forum for various reasons. Good to here PF1 is to remain running. :) |
