1364579 2014-01-16 23:01:00 Zorin is close enough to XP to do most things the same or very similar. I wont be trying Mint or Ubuntu again, as I REFUSE to change my hardware to lower spec's, mainly graphic Cards to run the OS's, they cant handle the cards:groan:

if the GUI installer won't work, use the text-mode alternate install, and then manually install the correct video drivers after installation. should work.

Good Idea, but that's not an option, it doesn't get to the point of selecting text-mode :( Interesting though after reading zqwerty post I tried Mint - KDE -- Straight in no worries.

Damn VM's looks like a whos who of OS's LOL :p

1364581 2014-01-16 23:54:00 You can download an alternative text-mode install CD image. If that doesn't work I would be amazed. Agent_24 (57)
1364582 2014-02-07 00:10:00 We have some interest from our members, three of whom are ladies of 84/85 years who came together. All three were very comfortable with our demonstration of Linux Mint Mate (not cinnamon). So we continue to demonstrate that and Ubuntu. The good news is that we have managed to get Zorin working fine now, without the hiccups of before. As that only happened yesterday we have not done much more but will look at it with renewed interest.

You bring up a very worthwhile point, Wainuitech. However there is no rush yet from our members. We feel comfortable with our resources to put on dual booting for those who bring in laptops. Most of XP users though will probably have PC's but we can give them a class on how to do themselves and give written instructions.

Will keep you posted
Cheers and thanks to all

1364583 2014-02-07 00:51:00 As long as you can get a working solution thats the whole point . :)

One thing thats always going to happen, some people will like a certain OS and find it easy to learn & use, others will like something else .

Just a suggestion: If you have the resources, have PC's with various OS's installed . Giving demos is fine, but get the people to actually try them .

I've seen it hundreds of times where you can demo something and people say they "got it" but when they go to use it go --- Errrr what did he /she do again ???

Thats what I do -- Show someone something, then get them to sit down and do the task a few times, correct where needed, till they get it right without having to help . :2cents:
