1364264 2014-01-04 21:56:00 I promised to help Daughter who's laptop had slowed down . Toshiba Satellite M40 running Microsoft Vista . Tried to update Vista and 33 updates have failed . Microsoft Security says it is "protected" . No other antivirus is used . When Vista loads the first error message is "systempropertiescomputername . exe "The Parameter is incorrect" . I cannot get access to C: drive "C:\ is not accessible access is denied" Have tried to do a System Restore but unable to get access . In safe mode the same happens . Googled the problem and suggestions of a virus so tried HitmanPro but again "access denied" - even in safe mode . Microsoft Safety Scanner 1 . 0 . 3001 . 0 has scanned the files but found nothing . Therefore my thought is the User Account Control has been corrupted . Next step tried to give logon full access by C:>CACLS files /e /p "name":f but again the report - access denied . All you experts out there Please Please tell me what I need to do . . . Thanks . Robnhd (16012)
1364265 2014-01-04 22:14:00 Infections can change permissions. MSSE may not have found anything, but then again "IF" its an infection it could have also killed MSSE ( wouldn't be the first time ) :p

If you want to run hitman pro then use the kickstart www.surfright.nl It runs from a USB drive, not the actual PC.

SystemPropertiesComputerName.exe doesn't look right, that more than likely is the problem. Can you open msconfig and uncheck that entry if it exists.

If not you may have to dig into the reg and disable it in the run options, OR see if you can run technet.microsoft.com If so disable or remove it.

THEN scan with antimalware programs like HitmanPro, www.bleepingcomputer.com - Use the blue download button. From that page scroll down and also run AdwCleaner.

Also run this before you download malwarebytes or similar, it should stop any malware processes from stopping the program downloading/running.

I have not had any success! When I try to run the programs you recommended I get the 'the parameter is incorrect'. I am unable open msconfig 'the parameter is incorrect'! Under 'computer' 'C' drive is listed as 'access denied'. Loaded 'kickstart' on a USB drive and it loaded the first time from boot but has now installed HitmanPro on the C drive and I have verified the program for 30 day trial. Full scan has not found any malicious items. I am unable to remove any programs: control Panel>programs>programs and features> 'you do not have sufficient access to uninstall .... Please contact your system administrator'. but I am logged on as administrator. Will take laptop to my IT tech who is presently on holiday for another week! Thanks for your suggestions.
