248214 2004-06-28 09:22:00 Have anyone heard of this happening . . .

I was configuring my girlfriends Computer for another ISP mainly because Xtra did
not offer a very good package . I created one for "Clear" and did
everything correct and tried to connect . No response from modem . Did lots
of playing around and finally discovered that by creating one named "Xtra"
but with the telephone number for "Clear" it would dial . Somehow there was
a script that says unless you are dialling Xtra don't bother .

What do you think?

248215 2004-06-28 09:53:00 The name for the dialup connection does not effect anything.

You may have had the wrong modem selected in the dialup connection properties.

248218 2004-06-29 06:41:00 Yes I know it sounds riddiculous and maybe it was some weird coincidence, but I created two named Clear (#'s 1 and 2). and they would not work, I swear i tried this severak times, then as soon as I named it Xtra but with the Clear number it would dial but not on the other ones. It just would not dial, no dial tone nothing...

And only one modem to choose from.

248219 2004-06-29 09:24:00 i wonder if they have used an Xtra setup cd that has Xtra browser addons ;-) also check what is runing at startup, i've heard of isp helper program before but never seen one. tweak'e (174)
248220 2004-06-29 11:32:00 Is this happening with Outlook Express or Internet Explorer?

Commonly in OE if you specify a particular connection, it won't bother dialling unless that specific connection is present. Try going in OE to Tools --> Accounts --> Mail --> Properties --> Connection and make sure that "always connect to this account using" is either not ticked, or specifying the right connection.

Or perhaps the fact that the majority of people use Windows and the majority of those users run OE and IE - safe bets, especially if there are problems afoot ;-).
