LOL

But to be honest, as much as I'd like to give him my say, my best recommendation would be for him to scout a few local PC shops, and let them do the choice for him. Based on his budget, he can't go too far wrong. He's better off asking about reliable suppliers in his area at this stage. Later on as he becomes more acustomed to his puting he can consult forums like this for upgrading.

Probably, but [url=http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1728/]I can see one excellent reason for shifting to PCI-E. Now isn't that just awesome?

:^O yes, blame me for that. I say go for dual Xeons, dual PCI-E cards, 4Gb of RAM, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum Ex, some nice speakers and a projector for watching dvds and playing games on. That will round up to a nice sum of $10,000.

248260 2004-06-29 04:30:00 High-end graphics cards are already too expensive for most people, never mind having 2 cards costing over a grand each on a 600 dollar motherboard with a $1300 cpu and a couple grand of ram and a 300 dollar psu.

The new gear coming on the market is certainly powerful, but that doesn't make whats currently available any less powerfull then it was a month ago.

My view is to buy whatever is good value for money on the day....there is always more expensive and more powerful gear on the horizen.....

248261 2004-06-29 04:57:00 I just bought a Radeon 9600Pro 256Mb graphics card. It's the Encore edition which I didn't know until it arrived but I am mega happy with it.

It was $272 inc GST and freight.

Very nice. That's a fair price to pay for a reasonable piece of kit
