247858 2004-06-27 05:58:00 If I open a word document in Office XP Pro and then try to close it by using x, the blue bar at the top of the screen flashes and I am then unable to close the document . The only way out is to use control, alt, delete . I have Office XP Pro on the other machine and when I try to close it using the x in the corner I have no problem in doing so .

I repaired it using detect and repair, this did not change the situation .

I then reinstalled Office XP, yet it is still doing the same thing .

Can anyone out there assist?

P . S . The only way out is to save it then close it using the x .

247860 2004-06-27 06:32:00 Maybe a macro that is set up to run on close or exit.

Hit Alt-F11 and check out what macros there are in the document or disable the macros from running using the security option.

What should be running here - in terms of macros?

How do you disable security?

You said the only way to exit is to save and click X - why can't you click File > Exit?

Depends on what the file is used for. In Excel spreadsheets it can be used for all sorts of things. In Word it can be the same. The ones we have at work insert things such as letterheads, graphics, fax details, add toolbar buttons, etc, etc. When it finishes and closes it puts things back the way they where.

Tools/Macros/Security and set it to High.

It tells you what they all mean there.
