| 248446 | 2004-06-29 16:29:00 | Hi, have just read article in PCWorld re: how Windows Service Pack 2 may stop you being able to use some of your programs. I have XP sp1 and it allows me to run Word97 and some older Vbasic programs without any problems at all and I don't want to lose these. Has anyone on this forum tested a trial of SP2, and if so, what kind of programs could you no longer use? MS says only programs that were created without taking security measures into account will have problems. Ironical when you consider that their programs are the ones with all the security problems, ?:| Marg |

| 248447 | 2004-06-29 19:20:00 | There's been discussions on this forum previously regarding SP2 - but personally I reckon if you're savvy enough to run and keep updated a good anti-virus and firewall app, then may as well leave SP2 out. I get nervous about it when it's key security feature wants to play with your cpu's architecture | Greg S (201) | ||

| 248455 | 2004-06-29 21:37:00 | Hi drcspy, Thanks for putting such effort into your posts. Tried both ways to get to the site, clicking and also copying and inserted. Page just wouldn't come up. I have office97, but only use the Word part at the moment. Another question but not related to sp2, but with Office97, on my other computer that died, I installed all of Office97 (except Outlook), and also added Photo Editor (think it was called that) from that same CD. It could do something I want to be able to do with my astrology but can't through their program. Eg. I want to print the chart out from one program, then go in and add an interpretation or aspect grid etc. on same page. You could centre the inserted item, plus click on the item and drag all over the page. Was a lot simpler and basic compared to Word and you didn't open a document. It came under Microsoft Office in the Windows explorer as well, so did belong to MS. Don't need to reply straight away on this one. I've been up all night and still got a lot to do. Don't wear a watch anymore. Who cares what time of the night it is? Also, thanks Greg S, I have got a firewall and virus protection and nothing major has gone wrong .......yet! Reading the posts on this column is great as you get lots of views rather than just the magazine or site editor who has one opinion. Being a newbie you are not in a position to judge their accuracy or their wisdom. Marg |
