248387 2004-06-29 09:10:00 Have a look in startup and see what programs are booting up.Uncheck anything you don't want to startup when booting.

248388 2004-06-29 11:59:00 You can also have a look at what is going on through Start, Run, msconfig. BTW what is the 4th icon? Is it Norton AV? andrew93 (249)

Have you been part of a LAN and have a Network card enabled?
Just possible the boot is looking for a LAN that is not there.

Just my thought.

248390 2004-06-29 12:38:00 Often a delayed boot up like that can be Nortons software. Experienced it a number of times myself, such a dog of a thing :p kiki (762)

248392 2004-06-29 22:48:00 These delays are usually caused by a network adapter trying to log on to a (non existant) network. godfather (25)

In Control Panel open Network connections
Your Dial up connection will be there and a LAN connection if there is one.
Right click the LAN connection and select disable from the menu

248395 2004-06-30 11:16:00 Hi rdee,

Have you got either Norton Antivirus or Norton Internet Security (or similar)? Have you recently run a "LiveUpdate" on it? I found that my computer booted in around 45 seconds, but then I ran a liveupdate and it took closer to 4-5 minutes to boot. I reformatted and reinstalled everything, and monitored exactly when it happened - right after a liveupdate... did a system restore back to before my last liveupdate, and it was back to normal. Seems to be one of the software updates (not the NIS or NAV definitions), so I've left it running without the latest update, but with all the latest definitions, and everything appears to be running fine.

Mike.
