| 248406 | 2004-06-29 08:52:00 | HI there, I am having trouble installing a new printer. I removed the old printer a Brother HL-760 but the computer tells me that part of a program has been removed press any key to continue. If I reinstall the drivers the computer works ok but the new printer will not work! I get LPT1 fault. I searched Google and found a possible answer that is by going into the registry, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Print\Windows 4.0\Drivers\Brother HL-760 I thought that I had removed all of the HL-760 but after this entry there appears nine objects relating to this printer. I would like to remove these objects but I am concerned about what might happen as I am not that computer literate but I know that you have to be carefull with deleting anything from the regisry. Iam running Windows 98SE. Regards, Merv. |

I should not think it should be a problem if the old printer is still there, you simply select the printer you want to use in Control Panle > Printers (make it the default). If your new printer is USB, they can be very fussy how the setup is done, Drivers then hardware usually but, with win 98 especially probably with a few re-boots. 98 can have a few issues with USB as well. Well mervselm... you are already into the registry, and you know what the objects relate to that you can see,ie,your old printer. So my advice would be to be brave and start deleting what you dont need any more. Its all about confidence, and at the end of the day,you can always ask for help here,if things do go wrong. So give it a go, and learn something for yourself. Best of luck. Hook. |
