2004-07-01 00:37:00 | Yes, we went on a time share presentation a few years ago. I have to say, they do it pretty well; I came out of the presentation wanting a holiday there and then. I took the mickey out of the guys presentation as he shows you pretty holiday pictures and a mockup of the timeshare in question. They certainly prey on your emotions. Then in the group session, when you sign up, your "consultant" cracks open the wine and introduces you to the whole group. What a load of .... Actually I phoned the Commerce Commission and they were not interested. I wonder if the people they employ have a conscience. Selling overpriced holiday homes, using suspect techniques.

2004-07-01 01:02:00 | SPAM takes many forms, including such 'phone calls, Dell brochures, The Economist subscription offers, real estate flyers, etc, etc And now I include the Prime Minister who yesterday sent me a brochure promoting the Labour Party as "Working with Maori" I guess this is what 'all the fuss' has been about recently and if so :- I TOTALLY AGREE - the Labour Party CONTINUES to use public money for it's own advertising/promotion "CONTINUES" because I have previously had 'electorate specific' such newsletters under cover of public money (stationery and postage) The most devious part is the invasion of my privacy - I wonder what the Privacy Commissioner will have to say ...

2004-07-01 02:12:00 | My wife and I went to a Timeshare presentation some years ago for sport and as an anthropological research exercise (polite words for going to watch the trained monkeys). They had a nursery setup so we took our baby daughter with us and left her with probably the only honest person in the organisation (she had nobody to sell to).:^O We had just got to the interesting part where everybody at one table leaps into the air shouting and screaming to celebrate their sign-up. It was so patently a ruse as to be ridiculous. We were hanging out for the free gift (forget what it was but some sort of kitchen appliance) but an insistent wailing started from the nursery and amazingly we were actually asked to leave without even being pressed to buy! Since they were throwing us out I asked for the gift but they argued like mad that we had to stay until the end of the presentation to get that and because we were leaving early we hadn't qualified. We could see the logic in that, so we headed back in to the room with baby in tow. That was enough for them, they gave the gift and off we went. Turned out the gift wasn't worth the hassle, but it made for an entertaining couple of hours. Cheers Billy 8-{) Absolutely no babies were harmed in the winning of this battle.

2004-08-11 01:01:00 | If I may add. I had Mormans coming to my door monthly to preach. One day, I said ".. You know, I have been really interested in your religion.." They must have thought their Christmases all came at once. The conversation went... I think that it is really great that one can have as many wives as one likes. It is really forward looking. Also, with two of you living, travelling and sharing experiences together, there must be many homosexual encounters. Once again you are really broadminded. Funny I have not had them come to my door any more.. and it has been 4 years already. Must be that they have given up on me. No disrespect meant to any party but this was the only way I could get rid of them. Cheers

2004-08-11 09:51:00 | Back to the telemarketers, I have a scheme to deal with the ones that ring around dinner time. I don't answer calls then anyway, so I use answerphone software on my PC (think it's IVM answering attendant at the mo) and I just use the automated menu system: "if you are a telemarketer, press 1. if you are a legitimate caller, e-mail me." Pressing one leads to a whole pile of sentences I have recorded that get played down the phone line at intervals, and you wait to see how long it takes them to figure out it's not actually a person. I record all these and have a good laugh over them later - some of these ppl are really quite thick. Then there's the other option - play back all the recorded conversations to whatever telemarketer just rang. On another topic - door to door salesmen in Kuratau (almost all holiday homes) in the middle of the winter school term??? Crazy.
