| 248599 | 2004-06-30 08:40:00 | I have a 120GB Maxtor external drive, which came with a FAT32 partition (117MB) and an unallocated partition (2.7MB). Instruction manual recommends reformatting to NTFS, which I have done. However I would like to format to 2 separate partitions of about 40GB each, leaving 40GB unallocated. How do I split the 117GB partition with WinXP Disk Management? In looking for the answer I also mistakenly selected "set partition as Active" from the right-click menu. What does this mean, and how can I reverse my mistake? |

Alternatively use Partition magic or similar (if you have it) to resize the existing partition. | JohnD (509) | ||

Setting a partition active is for booting - I don't think that setting this will have any effect as you will still be booting from your first hard disk. |
