248584 2004-06-30 06:55:00 I've downloaded a movie clip from the BBC website, to watch soccer movies. It is in RAM format; what programme do I need to use, to be able to watch the movies?

Have tried Windows Media player, it says format is not supported.

248587 2004-06-30 09:51:00 Ugh... RealOne Player is a horrid piece of bloatware.

I'd reccomend the Real Alternative from here: http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/

248588 2004-06-30 10:49:00 Yea, RealOne is a piece of *****

Get real player 8 from somewhere, an old archive site should be fine (or try a P2P program)

or try Here (www.dl1.oldversion.com)

(also, real player 8 is smaller)

it seems www.oldversion.com is a good site :)

248589 2004-06-30 21:11:00 A point of interest, a .ram file is small file about 1KB that links to the full file which will be a .rm extension. It seems to be a bug in IE (maybe other browsers too ?) that saves the full file as .ram. When the save option window opens it is best to change the file extension from .ram to .rm to prevent confusion.

Sometimes the full .rm file is in a protected directory to prevent downloading, that is another reason why link .ram files are used.

UltraPlayer is another media player that will play Real Media/Audio files as well as a host of other formats.
