2004-06-29 14:11:00 | I have a networking glitch with a printer. One system is XP home with 2GBCPU with 256 ram the other is Win ME on a Pentium 200. I have everything working except the printer sharing off the faster PC. I have the network running thru a router. Both PC's have different IP addresses and all protocols are present including the printer sharing visibly enabled. Am I missing something here...I have set up many small networks with no probs till this one come along. I have also installed the drivers in the slave PC but it wont print the test page. The print icon flashes in the task bar then nothing. I have even used the compatability app from XP but alas no test print off the slave PC (P200)The HP printer works fine off the faster PC. Any thoughts Cheers CeeBee

2004-06-29 22:15:00 | Is your printer USB or parallel? Have you checked that the printer port is mapped correctly on the slower PC? | Sb0h (3744) | |
2004-06-30 02:12:00 | You say you have "installed the drivers in the slave PC" ---I assume that this means that the printer appears as a Printer, and its Properties show it as a network printer, with the appropriate address. I'm not an XPert, but I don't think it requires you to have a User registered on the XP system to use the printer. But I could be wrong.;-) Can you share a directory? If you can make that work, printing ought to work.:D

2004-07-01 01:22:00 | I have tried to activate the XP firewall but it confliscts with the router one....disabled. The Printer is USB...have reloaded drivers PRIOR to plug in and runs fine on the Master PC. As for Mapping it does pick it up on the network (Installing from the slower PC)

2004-07-01 01:24:00 | As for sharing folders etc ALL works fine; full sharing sees and works on all fronts EXCEPT the printer :( | CeeBee (5817) | |
2004-07-01 02:18:00 | If you transfer the printer to the slave computer can you then print a test page or a document? I recall having a similar problem some time ago and from memory it was the way the printer was identified in the slave driver software. Cheers Billy 8-{)

No need to install driver in your WinME. Now have you setup the path for your other pc? U need to add a network printer in WinME, and select the connect to this printer, in the name field just type: \\"name of your 2Bcpu"\"name of your shared printer" dat is ur path without the quotes. It should work..I network all my pc to 2 printers this way.. good luck :D By the way..if you want to print, the printer that is physically connected to the pc has also need to be on as well.... |
