Can anybody help a woman in distress
I appear to have been infected by a Trojan called ‘downloader.small.6.1’
I am running Win ME and antivirus software ‘Adaware’, ‘AVG’, ‘Spybot’ and ’Norton’.
AVG keeps popping up on the screen telling me about the trojan….but when I click on to kill it…..AVG tells me it cant !!.
AVG tells me its in my Restore and Recycle files as C:\xdldr17.exe and C:\recycled\1.exe
Any ideas from you people that know of these things ??
Regards Vivian

248291 2004-06-29 01:16:00 You need to turn off your system restore go start right click my computer then select properties and select system restore turn it off and restart your computer then torn it back on . johnboy (217)
248292 2004-06-29 01:18:00 alright........from what avg is telling us do the following ..............empty your recycle bin...................then clik 'startbutton' and goto the control panel .......then clik 'performance and maintenance' then clik 'system' then clik the 'system restore' tab .......the put a tick in 'disable system restore' then clik ok/apply etc etc.........then restart then RE-enable system restore by goin back and UNticking 'disable system restore' then clik ok/ok/apply etc.............should be all good after that ......then I HIGHLY RECCOMEND that you UPDATE your antivirus and do another scan just to be sure........... drcspy (146)

248294 2004-06-29 01:21:00 That means its in your recycle bin, so right clicking on the icon for the recycle bin on the desktop and selecting delete will empty this.

Thats assuming you don't want anything that has been trashed and consigned to the bin, which is normally the case.

For the system restore files, you need to disable system restore.

Control Panel - Sysytem - System restore - Turn off System restore - Apply and OK (accept any messages) and then reboot.

Then do the opposite to above, and re-enable it.

The trojan has been backed up by the system restore, and the above should purge all restore files and start again. You would not want to restore a trojan affected system anyway, so losing the restore points is OK.
