248881 2004-07-01 06:22:00 I have a 33mhz computer with windows 3.11 on it. I have recently installed a network card into it to hook it up to my hub.

1) i installed the driver for the card, that was all good
2) installed TCP 3.11B, that was all good

3) restarted - and logged on - hub recognized the connection - but i couldnt do anything because sharing wasn't enabled. Thus i enabled this, restarted and now the thing tells me it doesnt have enough extended memory to load windows!! (it can load DOS, of course)

4) i have 20MB ram on it which *should* be enough.

Anyone know how i can tell it to use less memory or anything?

248884 2004-07-01 07:57:00 Do you have the extended memory manager loaded (himem . sys)?

Make sure you have this line in your CONFIG . SYS: DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM . SYS
<or path as required for your system>

248887 2004-07-01 08:45:00 Back in the medieval period it all revolved around keeping enough space in the 1st 640K. Is there something starting at bootup that you can "load high" PaulD (232)
248888 2004-07-01 08:57:00 this takes me back and if memory serves
go to a command prompt type in "Mem /?"
that hope will give you some options then follow your nose from there
should tell how your memory is optimized and may allow you to run the dos memory optimizer
This (www.google.co.nz) google search may help also

248890 2004-07-01 09:06:00 Please post the contents of your config.sys file and your autoexec.bat file.

Both of these will probably be located in the root directory of drive C:
