| 248844 | 2004-07-01 05:48:00 | 1. My scanner (Hp Scanjet 3400c) hasn't been used for a while (several months - perhaps as much as a year, I'm not sure). Anyway I went to use it today, so I plugged it in (USB) and it detected as normal and everything seemed fine. However when I try to scan, I just get a big black image. I've tried changing which USB port I use, have changed power supplies, have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver (Win XP built in driver - HP doesn't have separate drivers for this model), but still the same thing. The scanner worked fine (under XP) last time I tried it. The computer has been formatted (several times) since I last used it. 2. My dad's work has a 3200c scanner which does work, however they get a blue tinge down one side. Dad thinks the bulb might be going... Any ideas? Thanks, Mike. |

Try here (h10025.www1.hp.com), This is the complete scanning software for the 3400c series of scanners for Windows XP. This software will only install properly in Windows XP. Steve |

One of the suggestions jumped off the screen at me. It said to make sure I had the right power-supply for my scanner, as an incorrect power supply can cause the scanner to scan a black image. My power supply isn't the one that came with my scanner - I lost my power supply somewhere, so borrowed a power supply for a different model HP scanner. So now I'll have to track down the right power supply for my scanner to see if I can rule that out. I hope that's all it is :| Mike. |
