248800 2004-07-01 04:41:00 My brother has just moved Hamilton from Auckland. He set up his desktop PC, but now cannot connect to any internet banking sites (nat bank, anz, asb). When he tries to log on at any of these sites he gets the "page unavailable" error. Sounds like maybe a security or privacy setting but he hasn't changed anything. He can connect with his laptop no probs and all the settings on both pcs seem to be the same. He has a dialup connection to xtra and is using Win XP. Any ideas? andy (473)
248801 2004-07-01 04:44:00 Woops! He moved to Hamilton - didn't actually move Hamilton. andy (473)

248804 2004-07-01 05:41:00 Normal html communication happens on port 80. SSL (Secure Socket Layer) web communication happens on port 443.

Is there a firewall on your PC blocking port 443?

248805 2004-07-01 06:32:00 As already mentioned by drcspy check date, time and year are all showing correct as if they are not cookies for the site may not be set.

As he has had the computer completely down this is a possibility.

248807 2004-07-01 09:50:00 Just checked, ANZ is down for me also was ok a couple of nights ago.

I know their online banking (network) at the branches was down today, could have affected all banks who use the same services.

Not a bank problem at that time anyway.

248809 2004-07-04 02:17:00 Update - by the time I'd got there, he'd reloaded windows XP (just "over the top - not a reformat). I loaded SP1 and the updates from the MS Feb cd. I deleted and re-installed the modem, now it's completely buggered. We can connect to the ISP, receive email, but cannot connect to the internet at all - just get the "page not found" message.
Its got me stuffed. I think a complete reinstall might be called for.
