248919 2004-07-01 08:25:00 I read in an earlier post that SP@ may stop Printer?Scanner etc access to the computer because of the new Firewall in SP2. Is this correct? We recently lost anything running thro the USB sockets & wondered if this was the reason. Any advice?? Apart from turning off the MS Firewall, where ever that is done. Thanks PJ Poppa John (284)
248920 2004-07-01 09:23:00 To turn the Internet connection firewall on or off for xp sp1
click start then control panel/Network connections and right click your dial up connection and click advanced untick the box to turn it off .

Another way start/connect to/show all connections/ right click your dialup connection and click advanced and untick the box to turn it off.
Wether its changed in sp2 dunno?

248921 2004-07-01 09:32:00 Sorry but I have only given you half the story.
We are now on Jetstream via a speedtouch router, previously on a lucent internal modem. In "Connections" the modem is "Off" although the firewall shows "On". NO connection is shown for Xtra Jetstream. Why??
Two computers where networked when on the Modem, this was not changed. OS,s are XP & 98se. PJ

248922 2004-07-02 10:48:00 the SP2 should have no effect on any USB devices that i know about.

the problem with the firewall is that it can stop "file and print sharing" on a lan.

you could look at un-installing SP2 and see if that helps.

248923 2004-07-02 23:02:00 In SP2 is there not an option to disable the firewall from being automatically on as the default? Surely you could disable it? Uninstalling SP2 seems rather drastic.

248924 2004-07-02 23:12:00 Yes, you can disable the firewall in SP2, Oxie. Have a look at this thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) for more info. :-) Susan B (19)

Unplugged all gadjets, turned off XP firewall, plugged each item in, & let it gothro "plug & play" setup. All ok. Put XP firewall back on & still ok. Thanks everybody PJ Poppa John (284)
