249586 2004-07-03 09:27:00 how do you mean "comp won't accept it" ??

is the cd a copy?

is the cd the same ver as your install? (sp1 or non-sp1)

btw writing posts in full caps makes it very hard to read and normally pisses poeple off.

249587 2004-07-03 09:39:00 If the machine is a store bought name brand PC then it most likely came with rescue discs. If you don't have these you'll be lucky to run any OS other than the disc(s) that came with the machine without a crack and we do not condone those here. Contact the shop where you got the PC and ask for a restore set of software, in which case they will probably want to reset the PC to the new disc(s) to counter piracy. Your other option is to wipe the hard drive clean, partition, format and start again with new software. You wont be able to go to a restore point made by one OS from within another, it will also depend on the restore settings as to haw far you can go back but, I don't know what that is in XP.

Why not contact the people you bought the computer from?

Hopefully they will give you a new set of disks.

I suggest you recover all files you have put on the computer if you can. You have backups of all those don't you?

Who sold you the computer and are they still around in New Zealand?

249591 2004-07-03 10:02:00 Do you mean the cd will not auto run? I notice you state that -
" 'I' INSTALLED WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION WITH MY NEW COMPUTER BOUGHT IN..." - which i presume means you had a box copy you installed, not a restore/recovery disc? And it didn't come preinstalled?
Theres not a chance that perhaps the cd you were given was a Recovery/Restore cd is there? As you should have still been able to do a repair on it otherwise... but as tweaké stated, it would depend if it was SP1 or not too?

By the way "Welcome to PF1" :-).
