249313 2004-07-02 13:14:00 Hi
I thought it would be easy to upgrade the RAM in my computer ( an HP Pavilion 534a). Looked up the specs and got the XH9415 from DSE. After a couple of fumbles (due to IDE cables and the like being in the way), I slotted it in, but the computer doesn't recognize it. I am running Windows XP Home Ed and thought it would automatically recognize it. So my questions are
-Is it the right RAM 256 DDR333?
-Is the problem due to mishandling?
-Is there something else I need to do?
Appreciate any help
regards

249314 2004-07-02 13:21:00 Well it looks like that particular model takes PC2100 DDR266 184pin DIMM memory. There might be some issues with trying to put DDR333 memory in it, probably the BIOS not supporting it? KingWave (5517)
249315 2004-07-02 17:37:00 Sometimes the RAM specs are allright but the computer does not like RAM from that manufacturer. Also you could be using single sided RAM when you need double sided or visa versa. Augustus (4490)

249318 2004-07-02 23:21:00 does the puter recognise the ram at ALL ? have you checked and double checked that it's plugged TIGHT ? if you took out the old ram what happens when you try to boot with the new ? drcspy (146)
249319 2004-07-03 00:20:00 Have a look at

www.4allmemory.com

Suggest blow out any crap in the slot, do not touch contacts, check if your new higher value RAM should be in slot 0, are ejector tabs snapped up into locked position. Note RAM notch is off centre.

249320 2004-07-03 01:48:00 Further to drcspy comments suggest install Everest Home Edition
from http://www.lavalys.com

go to Motherboard then Memory and SPD, check new RAM is listed plus any problems listed.
