249307 2004-07-02 11:31:00 Using XP Professional and IE 6 when downloading web pages the width varies (eg Xtra fills about half the width of the page and PC world the total width)
When removing the favourites column Xtra stays the same width but PC world, and others, fill the total width.
Is it possible to fix this?

It is not a problem. It is how different web designers design different websites.

249309 2004-07-02 11:52:00 Depends what resolution you use for your monitor. Xtra also displays at two thirds width on my 17" monitor at 1024 x 768. Looks to me as if it is designed for 800 x 600. This site fits perfectly on 1024 x 768, but needs side scrolling on 800 x 600.

It's all in the web page design.

249310 2004-07-03 00:10:00 The reason that the Xtra pages do not fill your screen is because the webpage creator has designed it so that computers with smaller monitors (eg 15" or even 14", if any still exist) can view the entire page without having to scroll sideways to see all of it .

With sites like Press F1 the webpage is more "dynamic" - by that I mean the page resizes itself to fit the browser window . The page is coded so that you can resize the browser width to quite narrow before you get a horizontal scrollbar because the page contents adjusts itself to fit the window .

Xtra's pages are not coded to do this due to the layout of the page .

249311 2004-07-03 02:36:00 Many thanks to Rob 99, Jester, and Susan B for your replies. In relation to the monitor resolution for my laptop it is 1400 x 1050, so this would explain it.
Thank you.

249312 2004-07-03 23:38:00 Mostly it's done by creating table attributes - a resizable page will have the table size set as a percentage of the screen. A page that has the stays the same size regardless of your resolution or window size will have the table set as a fixed number of pixels Greg S (201)
