| 249159 | 2004-07-02 04:13:00 | I have laptop with a floppy disk drive and an external CD-writer. I want to completely wipe out everything on the harddrive and install windows. For that I need to boot from the windows CD, but I can't with the external drive. Is there any other way around this? | anish (5836) | ||

If you try to run XP setup from the A: prompt you get am error message that setup cannot be runin dos . Each version of XP has its own boot floppy setup program ie HE, HE sp1 etc . The setup program can be downloaded from microsoft downloads ( . microsoft . com/downloads/search . aspx?displaylang=en&categoryid=7" target="_blank">www . microsoft . com) . Run the program and it installs onto 6 floppies . Booting from the floppies gets you to the point where you can enter the recovery console or run setup . I hope this is clear |
