249995 2004-07-05 08:45:00 I need someone to explain to me what this term means please;
"greyscale", I think thats spelt correct.
I am learning how to use a graphics program,and this term is an option.
Bitmap is another I'm interested in knowing.
Sorry if I'm not explaining myself properly.

Thanks

Hook

249999 2004-07-05 09:01:00 Hi -
Greyscale in this instance probably refers to the options for rendering a picture - Colour - Black & White - Greyscale. Colour is pretty self-explanatory, Black & White is a choice of two shades - 100% black or 100% white like a pen sketch, while Greyscale is a picture in varying shades of grey, like a non-coloured print in a newspaper. It is not a lot of help here that a black & white photograph refers to a greyscale picture in the present context.
Another Greyscale is the bands of progressively darkening shade across a picture to aid in adjusting colour purity and contrast,/ brightness.
Strange concept, grey gives colour purity and balance test, but it is because grey requires equal amounts of red, green and blue light to show "true" grey.
Another Gray scale is what Dorian weighs things on.
