| 249984 | 2004-07-05 08:40:00 | Ok, got an old P133 from a friend, doing the basic format & reinstall thing for them. They only want email and a bit of web browsing from it so.......... What are our options for a simple & secure internet machine, we only have 32mb ram with 2 mb shared for video, isa soundblaster and 33.6k dynalink modem. I have a choice of win95 or 98 cd´s or most flavours of Linux. Ideas please???.... P.s. I will through in some more ram if I can find some. |

| 249986 | 2004-07-05 10:08:00 | I ran win 98 on 80megs edo ram, IE6 & Eudora all on a P133 with no problems. It even had a massive 1.2gig HD. | phil.b (4456) | ||
| 249987 | 2004-07-05 10:23:00 | Mums PC is a P133 with 64 megs of EDO RAM (4 x 16 meg sticks) with sound and running Win98SE. I put it together free for her so she's happy. She can surf, email, use IM and it plays mpegs and mp3's fine. It's running pretty lean (I have educated her about cleaning temp files etc so she runs a dos .bat file I set up with info from the Langa list), has AVG on it and has done for about 18 months now. Her hard drive is 2 gigs, and has more % free than my 80 gig lol. J :D |

| 249988 | 2004-07-05 23:17:00 | Well on my Win95B 'test bed' machine which is a Pentium MMX 200 with 850MB HDD, 128MB EDO RAM there is: ZoneAlarm 2.6 Grisofts AVG 6 free version IE 5.5 SP2 Netscape 4.0 Foxmail email 2.1 Netmeeting 3.01 ICQ 2003a ........ and heaps more utils and small programs. Small is beautiful if you are limited in capacity. You can still do a lot with Win95 B or Win95C, but Win95A is pretty useless. |
