249891 2004-07-05 02:20:00 I suspect that the power switch on my case is faulty, but it could also be the motherboard. How do you start the computer without using the front power button? I assume it involves sending current down the two "power prongs" on the motherboard.

Cheers, Ben

use thin blade screwdriver and touch both pins at once and be positive that its the two pwr pins that are shorted with the blade and nothing else. It only needs a brief touch to start.
Of course not all mobos designate pwr pins as such and can label them something else.
As in everything, do at your own risk :-)

249893 2004-07-05 02:48:00 The two wires to the front switch carry a 5v signal, and the switch simply connects them together momentarily to start the PSU.

If you suspect the switch is faulty, just briefly connect the two wires together. If that does not start the PSU/computer, then the problem is elsewhere.

Have a great day & don't say bugger
