249657 2004-07-04 09:57:00 easiest way to nut out where the problem lies is to run a tracert... I've noticed that ever since Telecom started removing peering routes from WIX that traffic has gone ballistic to keep up and sometimes WIX can be a killer (what should all be sub 10ms traffic as it's all fibre can get up to 230ms)

Right now tracerting pressf1 I get 1ms to WIX, 2ms across WIX and then 20ms through to pressf1... ahh sweet sweet citylink at work :D

Let this be a lesson to you all: No peering kills the interweb. Down with Telecom AND TelstraClear!

Sadly it's only going to get worse...

249659 2004-07-04 10:47:00 Yeh mine has sucked too from time to time over the past week or so. I agree with whetu, peering is effectively on the way out, trying to screw the smaller players out of existence. Add to that unresolved bogon web addresses/IP, changed exchange equipment, lulu, number portability, etc, etc, NZ's telecom services seem to be going nowhere fast or slipping backwards (especially when compared to other developed countries) while Telecom et al play monopoly and duck shove the issues and us around.

Ah! that feels better.

A: Wait longer
B: E-mail
C: Fax
D: Postal letter

I am also on xtra ADSL (Jetsurf) & I have not any problems with it, only thing I have noticed was I was getting 5.8 Mbps now I am getting 6.1 Mbps.

249663 2004-07-05 02:44:00 Mine was looking like DNS issues. Could only get selected web sites and email wasn't happening at all, name resolution was failing.

Telecom's DNS servers are known for being extraordinarily unreliable.

Try using Paradise's or someone elses.
