250312 2004-07-07 00:16:00 My new Compaq Presario came with many new whistles and bells including a Prog. called BackWeb. I got a bit frightened by stories of computer hi-jacking and installed Spybot to keep me safe. Ran Spybot and found a whole lot of red asterisks alongside BacWeb Lite entries so I zapped them off into oblivion. Since then I keep getting a pop-up with the following message.
"Runner Error! ' Could not load the target dll (C:\Program Files\BackWeb\BackWeb Client\6.2.3.66L\Program\frcom.dll' error code 126".
Now this pop-up keeps repeating itself every few minutes or so until there are so many in the tile that the computer freezes up altogether.
Question.
1. How do i get rid of the pop-up?
2.As this programme comes with H.P.'s blessing ( I presume) what essential function does it have?
3.What is a runner error?
Being a little slow on the uptake these days, can some kind person please enlighten me? Thanks

250314 2004-07-07 00:49:00 It looks like it is used to update your computer automatically this from www.backweb.com

Hewlett-Packard, HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario
Hewlett-Packard and invention: the two are interchangeable in most people's minds. With its keen understanding of customers' needs and the power of creativity, the PC giant recently launched yet another innovative program. Every consumer who purchases an HP Pavilion or Compaq Presario automatically receives the latest hardware and software updates and other important information -- simply by logging onto the Internet.

"By proactively delivering information and updates to our users through BackWeb's Priority Internet communication software, we expect to increase customer satisfaction."
Gilles Bouchard, Americas business manager for HP's Home Products Division

250315 2004-07-07 02:08:00 Also note that although it had a good intention in mind, the backweb turned out to be relatively easy to utilize for the bad guy's out there in Internet land. So do not fell sorry for wiping it out.

If can also utilize a registry cleaner to clean out those entries as well. Something like Regcleaner (www.worldstart.com)

250316 2004-07-07 11:34:00 It is the bloody keyboard trying to phone home. It has certainly put me off ever buying an HP or Compaq. Why on earth does a keyboard need to phone home. Running Spybot or Adware on any HP machine always comes up with a load of crap. mikebartnz (21)
250317 2004-07-07 11:43:00 backweb comes with heaps of products, not just hp/compaq. keyboards, hardrives, printers etc etc have all had it at one time or another. most of the time its nothing more than a check to see if new drivers/software are advailable. i prefer to update manually so backweb is often removed to save bandwidth. tweak'e (174)
250318 2004-07-07 11:44:00 I seem to remember Backweb being in the Startup menu. Sorry can't remember but recently have had to reinstall an HP because of a dead HD.(Third one recently)
If it isn't in the Startup menu get one of the many good progrqms that will show you what is running at Startup.
