250087 2004-07-05 22:52:00 Just trying to make a DVD of my wedding.
I have made up 2 video files (MPEG2), one of the wedding and one of the reception.
As these two files are only about 1 & 1/2 hours long combined (can fit about 2 hours onto a DVD-R) there is still some space on the DVD. So I got some photos from the wedding day and made them into a slide show with some music playing along with it.

After writing to a DVD-R it seems to play fine in some PC DVD-ROM drives but not all and in stand-alone DVD players the wedding and reception videos play fine but they won't play the photo slide show. They just lock up.

I have tried making the DVD with Sonic MyDVD and NeroVision Express and also 2 different brands of DVD-R discs and also to different DVD-RW drives. The ones made with NeroVision Excpress works the best.

Anyone got any ideas about how to make the photo slideshow work in stand-alone DVD players?
What software is best to use?

250088 2004-07-05 23:49:00 It's not necessarily the authoring software, but more likely to be the standalone players fault. DVD players vary considerably in the formats and brands of media they play back. I have made DVD's of my home video's on one brand of DVD to find it wouldn't play properly (even though my DVD player accepts that type of media), yet switching to a different brand fixed the problem. Does the DVD player accept jpeg files? You may find the files have to be named in a certain way and in a certain file structure for each player to play them. I would have a look at the manual for the player and do a search at videohelp.com. Sb0h (3744)
250089 2004-07-05 23:55:00 That's what I thought at first too that's why I tried a different brand of DVD-R. But the problem is also there when trying to watch the photo slide show on some PC DVD-ROM drives as well.

The authoring software makes the photos and music into an MPEG2 file then writes it as a VOB file so a DVD player should just see it as another video. It shouldn't make any difference whether the DVD player can view JPGs or not. But if it does, the players I tried it in can view JPGs as I have made picture discs and played them ok.

250090 2004-07-05 23:59:00 So do you create another chapter for the slide show or just tack it on at the end? Sb0h (3744)
250091 2004-07-06 00:11:00 It's a seperate title so the disc has 3 options on the main menu, wedding, reception & photos.
The wedding and reception titles are broken into chapters for easy access to certain parts.

250092 2004-07-06 00:38:00 I have just seen on Google someone having some success with Ulead DVD Moviefactory 3. You can download a trial version here (www.ulead.com) may be worth a try. It's probably going to be a trial and error thing....don't you just love DVD authoring, it's so damn finicky :_| Sb0h (3744)
