| 250056 | 2004-07-05 13:46:00 | I have seen that GASP is being trialled in my area and intend to look into it as it sounds like a great option for me. I cant get cable and don't want to pay jetstream. I currently have dial-up at $25 month ISP and extra phone line (Telecom) with call restriction -$36 month. With Gasp it would be about $45 month on cheaper rate, but I would have to pay $111.37 to install and may need $223 equipment in setting up. I would be dropping the second phone line and current ISP so would be spending $16 less per monthly outgoing. (So in two years I would have paid, with the setup costs, same as I do now, but have had faster connection for that two years, and thereafter would be saving $16 month on what I pay now). The website says I could get 256Kbps International & up to 3Mbps National with a monthly megabyte allowance of 1.5GB(Int.) 10GB(Nat.) It is dearer ($78.75) for unlimited. Now, going from my current 52000bps connection speed this deal sounds great..if I can get the speed they say. I have read of many Jetsream users who don't get what was advertised. So I am doing some research..looking before I leap. Do you have GASP? How is it working for you? | Carol T (1211) | ||
| 250057 | 2004-07-06 00:46:00 | Hmmm...more info. Got a reply from them and it seems their basic residential plan is $70/month for a 256kbps international, 3mbits national, flat rate connection. This plan includes a static IP address. The wireless equipment required is $250, with an install fee of $99 - $199. These prices are exclusive of GST,( my calculations above I had added the GST on). This is a bit different from what I interpreted from their website...going to have to do my maths all over again. Also, if I did get it installed and was not happy with speeds, would the wireless equipment work with other wireless options if I changed to another wireless provider? |

Auckland? >Also, if I did get it installed and was not happy with speeds, would the wireless equipment work with other wireless options if I changed to another wireless provider? Woosh uses proprietary equipment so that's a no there, and wired country uses a totally different frequency range so that's a no there either... You can however use the equipment for normal wifi applications... |
