250368 2004-07-07 06:32:00 What happened to the site/forum heading towards only having the one company being able to advertise?

Or has that already happened?.....i have everything blocked so for all i know the header and side panel maybe be compaq ads as well.

250369 2004-07-07 06:37:00 myie2 ihas a good write up on the pc world site, so I was going d/l it. If it doesn't block all the pop ups I won't bother wotz (335)
250370 2004-07-07 06:59:00 yes, I read the write up. Maybe that's the idea... recommend the browser so that they can tell the advertiser that everyone is watching their ads and get more money (grin!)

Trouble is, I like using MYIE2... tried firefox but it just 'doesn't do it for me'.

I've been using MYIE for at least 6 months and it's only the last month that these intrusive ads have been hitting NZ sites... so is it a trend and soon will we have to wade and dodge our way past little bouncing ads. the NZ Herald one with the Speed camera flashing in your face without warning was great!

yes Metla, I remember Bruce or Robo or someone a month or so ago asking or opinions as how PF1 members felt about 'minimal' advertising on the forum.

As you block everything on the page this what you don't see: across top of page 'ad' subscribe to FFW Mag and be in to win Rotel stereo. Down right side 'ad' to sign up to IDG and get virus alerts. Then of course there's the floating Compaq ad telling you your computer's too slow and you need a new one.

On the plus side... at least the ad was positioned just above the log in window and I could see to type my name :-)

250372 2004-07-07 09:00:00 Cripes you guys, the adverts here are supposed to be the bread and butter of this forum . Without them we might not be here!

Whether you block the ads or not at least have the courtesy to keep it to yourself .

Geez, I hope the advertisers don't read all this . . . . :O

250373 2004-07-07 09:12:00 I have a labeled compaq briefcase and a brilliant red compaq polo shirt (courtesy of compaq Tuanz conferences)) so I think I am doing my bit

We do not live by bread alone

Some would say that some of us are not all here :D

Safe enough Susan B, most advertisers can't read anything without pictures, judging by what they throw at us . Just be thankfull they haven't put sound on 'em yet !

:^O They did one Christmas! You got treated to the sounds of jingling bells from a sleigh passing through the ad every 5-10 minutes. Freaked a few people out who couldn't figure where this jingling sound was originating from. One forum member (who will remain nameless) even opened up his case looking for the source of this weird sound :D
